Book Review - My Mother's Quilts: Devotions of Love, Legacy, Family and Faith by Ramona Richards

Recently, I won a copy of this wonderful book on a bloggers Giveaway.   I love Quilts and I knew that I would enjoy this book!  =)
I dont quilt....but my Grandmother did.  She made me two Quilts which I treasure!

My Mother's Quilts:  Devotions of Love, Legacy, Family and Faith is filled with wonderful photos and Devotions.  I enjoyed each chapter!  The chapters are short - they tell a story of family, Love and Community.  The color photos are stunning and the quilts are beautiful!
I'm so glad that I have a copy of this book.  I'm going to refer back to it often because the bible verses and quotes are lovely.

More about this Book:
From the Authors website

Inspired by thirty family heirloom quilts, each devotion in My Mother’s Quilts shares the enduring legacy of faith, family, and tradition in our lives. Rich, personal, sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, readers will find their own lives reflected in the author’s memories and the lessons and encouragements drawn from the quilters whose legacy lives on in their work. Woven through it all is the message of God’s grace and faithfulness, as strong as the bonds of the generations and as comforting as the oldest and softest quilt that your grandmother ever sewed. Beautiful, four-color photos of each quilt are included.

Book Tour - Review and Giveaway - Forget me Knot by Mary Marks

Forget me Knot is the first book
in Mary Marks new Quilting Mystery series

Publisher: Kensington
Release Date - January 7th, 2014

I really enjoy Quilts and when I had the chance to read this book and join the Great Escapes Book Tour, I was so excited!

When Martha and her friends from "Quilty Tuesdays" decide to invite Claire Terry into their group, they never would have guessed that when they stopped by to visit her, - they would find her dead inside her home.  They quickly become more involved with the murder investigation than they want to be, especially when several of their quilts are stolen including one of Claire's!
Martha is a sweet character (she is over 50, slightly overweight, stubborn and independent)  and loves to quilt.  When Claire's mother asks Martha to help her figure out who the killer is, Martha cant resist....even if it puts her in harms way.   If you are a quilter, you will love the descriptions of the different quilts, and I especially loved all of the descriptions of how Claire used french Knots in her quilts. It sounds like the french knots were a wonderful addition!   I liked the romance element in the story also.  The mystery had me guessing until the end!

"Was it just my imagination, or was he looking at me again?  All of a sudden, I had the pulse rate of a hummingbird and a hot flash was coming on."

I believe that quilts tell a story, and after you read this book I think you will agree.
I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

Book summary:
Welcome to San Fernando Valley, California, where Martha Rose and her coterie of quilters are enjoying life on the good side of retirement—until murder pulls a stitch out of their plans…
Martha and her besties Lucy and Birdie are set to expand their Quilty Tuesdays by inviting newcomer Claire Terry into their group. Though at forty Claire’s a tad younger than their average age, her crafty reputation could perk up their patchwork proceedings, especially as they prepare for the fancy quilt show coming to town. But when they arrive at Claire’s home and find her dead inside the front door, and her exquisite, prize-winning quilts soon missing, Martha is not one to leave a mystery unraveled. Especially if she wants to stop a killer from establishing a deadly pattern…

My Grandmother made me 2 Quilts which I treasure!  I do not have a good picture of them, but one is done in shades of blue, and one is done in shades of brown. I have a Pinterest board with lots of wonderful Quilts and Quilted items, and this is one of my favorite "quilting" sites  http://www.psiquilt.com/

This week I'm reading "The Wanderer" by Robyn Carr.  Several friends of mine have joined me for a Book tour for this book that starts
August 5th and runs thru August 8th, I'm looking forward to it!

Quilted Bookmarks

I love all things that are Quilted!  Including my two Queen size Quilts that my Grandmother made me, and various other Quilt items in my Home!
I **Love** Quilted Bookmarks!

I recently found  Fabric Creations Fran  on Etsy..she has some wonderful Quilted Bookmarks and other items that are so cute!

Fran told me that some of her bookmarks have beads, and some have
tassels.  She uses a variety of fabrics for her bookmarks and she can do custom bookmarks such as fruit for a Cookbook.
Her bookmarks are quilted with Cotton Batting between the layers for the softness of a full size quilt - yet are thin enough to use with books.
~ Please contact her thru her Etsy shop for special orders~
