Book Tour - Review and Giveaway - Playing with Fire by J.J. Cook

Playing with Fire
2nd in series
Release Date: January 7th, 2014

Welcome to Sweet Pepper, Tennessee. Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains, it’s home to the hottest and sweetest peppers in the world—as well as at least one ghost and a hotbed of secrets…
Fire Chief Stella Griffin is working to solve the mysterious death of her predecessor, Eric Gamlyn—who also haunts her cabin. Yet the more she learns, the more burning questions she must answer. Just as Stella thinks she has a lead from Deputy Chum, someone snuffs her hopes—and the lawman.

My thoughts:
This was my first visit to Sweet Pepper, and I loved the mystery, charm and the characters in this story!
I liked the way that Stella can see Eric, ( who is a ghost ) - and talk to him, and he even cooks for her!
When Stella arrives in Sweet Pepper, its supposed to be for just a little while..but she is finding it hard to leave.  The more she finds out about the mystery surrounding Eric's death, the more she wants to figure it out.  Meanwhile, though her parents want her to return home, where she also has a job waiting...
Stella also meets Zane, a nice guy who she is seeing while she is in Sweet Pepper, but she dosent think their relationship will continue, because she needs to go back home soon.
Without giving too much away, this book is filled with lots of twists and turns while Stella tries to figure out exactly what happened to Eric,..before something happens to her...

One of my favorite quotes from the book -
"I understand", Eric said.  I didnt expect you to stay this long, and certainly not on my behalf.
"Im dead, Stella. There's not much anyone can do to hurt me, or help me, anymore."

Will there be a romance between Stella and Eric....?
If you like mysteries mixed with some romance and a ghost that dosent want to leave, be sure and pick up "Playing with Fire"!
There are also some recipes in the back of this book, including Hot/Sweet Pepper Relish!

"Playing with Fire" is part of a series, if you want to start at the beginning be sure and pick up Book One "That Old Flame of Mine".

  5. I can't wait to begin reading this series. I worked in a Fire Station once many years ago (nearly 50) -- on an Air Force Base as a clerk typist on a work-study program.
