Review - Promise Canyon by Robyn Carr

Promise Canyon - #13 in the Virgin River series
Release Date - January 2011
MIRA Books

After years spent on ranches around Los Angeles, Clay Tahoma is delighted to be Virgin River’s new veterinary assistant. The secluded community’s wild beauty tugs at his Navajo roots, and he’s been welcomed with open arms by everyone in town—everyone excerpt Lilly Yazhi.
Lilly has encountered her share of strong, silent, traditional men within her own aboriginal community, and she’s not interested in coming back for more. In her eyes, Clay’s earthy, sexy appeal is just an act used to charm wealthy women like his ex-wife. She can’t deny his gift for gentling horses, but she’s not about to let him control her. There’s just one small problem—she can’t control her attraction to Clay.
But in Virgin River, faith in new beginnings and the power of love has doors opening everywhere...

======================

My thoughts:     I'm a huge fan of the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr.  There are 20 books in this series, and each one could be read as a "stand-alone" book, but I really recommend you read them in order to fully understand the characters and the story line.

When Clay arrives in Virgin River, he dosent really know anyone except his friend, ( the  Veterinarian that he will be working with ), but as he gets to know the town and makes friends he finds that he really enjoys the Community.  While working at the Clinic, Clay meets Lilly, and he finds out that she was also brought up around the Indian traditions that he values. Both Clay and Lilly are very proud of their Indian heritage and background, and it is a common bond that pulls them together.

All the regulars from Virgin River have a part in this book, including Jack and Mel, Preacher and his wife, and many other Characters that are a part of the Virgin River community!

One of my favorite quotes from this book:
"One of these days, Lilly, you'll take a chance on me."
She laughed and gave him a dismissive wave as she headed for the truck, but inside she was thinking,  I am taking a pretty big chance right now.  For me.....

Now that Robyn Carr has earned the #1 slot on the New York Times list many times, the creator of the wildly popular Virgin River and Thunder Point series laughs when someone refers to her as an overnight success.
“The truth is, I was first published in 1978, and it took me thirty years to make it to The New York Times bestseller List,” she pointed out, referring to 2007’s A Virgin River Christmas.

  2. Oooo, the Navajo prospective sounds very interesting! :) The characters must be very interesting and well-developed to support a 20 book series! Sounds good!

  5. My husband's father's side is 100% Am. Indian, so I think this book would be cool to read just for fact finding alone. I love reading about the traditions and such, and I'm guessing some pop up here. :)
